This is not going to be a discussion about whether the LGBT community is moral, or in some way questioning the identity of Christianity and family. This is going to be a discussion about how we, as Christians and as Poles, must build communities that spread God's love. Poland is the beating heart of Europe. And as the heart, we have the right to direct the continent and the world in what love is. And these zones are not love. They are hate. "We love because He first loved us." (1 John 4:19 | NIV). But in him loving us, have we forgotten how to love others? The others that God loves too. In creating these zones, I understand that there was a drive to create areas where Christianity is put first, and we have the ability to control what our students know and think. I don't know what the government officials were trying to protect our kids from. But, I do know that in creating these zones, the people have gone away from their goals of teaching "morality" and instead have supported hate and started to teach everything that goes against the morals of Christianity. As a Catholic country that has been the walls that have kept Europe a Christian continent and has fundamentally held together the principles of Christianity, these zones have failed to look at our history. A history that has been driven by others wanting to control what we know and what we think. A history that has forced us to be hated by our neighbors - because they thought we were less than them. But in all of this history, what has allowed us to be a nation is the fact that when things got hard, we got on our knees and asked God for his love and for his blessing, and for him to forgive our neighbors for what they have done to us. Why do we stop now? Why now do we feel, that as a country, we can play God? God is the final judge. He is the one who can create zones. Zones of heaven and hell. Not us. Not us as people, not us as voivodships, not us as a nation.
God told us, "Above all, love each other deeply because love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8 | NIV). If we believe that homosexuality, or being transgender, or bi, or any part of the LGBT community is a sin, my question is, why are we not turning to the Bible and listening to God's words? He told us to love. Not to hate. He told us that those sins, those sins, and their sinners must be loved. FOR THEY ARE HUMAN, AND THEY ARE HIS CREATION. He will decide what he is to do with them. He is the one to decide what will happen. NOT US. We do not have any jurisdiction to create zones of hate in HIS land. On HIS earth.
In our parliament hangs a cross. May that cross be a reminder to our lawmakers that God is one to create zones. Not theirs.
