At A.A. Stagg High School I work as a senior intern in the tech department. A big portion of my job is overseeing all the other interns and creating new projects that focus on the use of instructional technology in our school. So, during #WomensHistoryMonth, I wanted to do something that highlights all of the amazing women in our tech department, understanding that the gender gap in the tech world is about 25% according to a recent Forbes article I read.
We have an amazing team of interns at Stagg, and so I knew that we can do something to highlight the two women that are an actual part of the staff in the Tech department, Ms. Stark and Ms. Wanda. So, I emailed @karolpara, another senior intern in the internship, and we got to the drawing board.
When it all came down to the works, we decided what better way is there to hear their side of the story than to interview them. I drew up a couple of questions that I thought were nice into hearing what they have to say. During the interview, you could see the passion that these women have for the work that they do. You can see how they are integrated into the community and how the hardships that they had to overcome are all worth it in the end. I am so thankful that I have female role models like them in my life.
Tech is such a big part of my life, starting from the moment Karol and I build the BeesWeNeed talk show, to the positions I now hold on tech boards and in tech companies like Ineffable. Tech is the future and women deserve to have a place in tech, but the only way we know how to get to the future is looking at the paths beaten down by the people who have walked them. It’s important to hear stories from people, and during Women's History Month it was important to hear stories from women like Ms. Stark and Ms. Wanda. Thank you for letting us interview you. Thank you for giving us a chance to grow and expand our wings.
Thank you also for all of you that helped out making the “Women In Tech” series possible: Karol Para, Evelyn Hosana, and Bradley Jaunich. If you want to watch the #WomenInTech series you can click on the videos in the post. Hope you enjoy!
